That is an image of facebook’s terms of service. Can’t read it, you say? Well, that’s because its really tiny and in GERMAN, but hey, it doesn’t matter, because you weren’t going to read it anyways. At least thats what fb thought. The recent brouhaha over their botched Big Brother-esque ToS policy last week forced Mark Zuckerberg to do an about face. At last year’s fb developer’s garage, I heard from the horse’s mouth the lessons learned from the failure of Beacon as Zuck extolled the virtues of privacy and how fb was the users’ community. This “for the users, by the users” mentality is being given a test drive with a choose your own adventure ToS. It will be interesting to see the outcome and I hope they have given thought as to how future iterations (i.e. amendments) will be drafted, but regardless, fb is buying itself some much needed goodwill.
