Discovered a novel local topical blog slash newsletter today called Xconomy that seeks to provide business and technology leaders with timely, insightful, close-to-the-scene information. Two stories on the site particularly caught my attention. One was about the maiden flight of the first car-plane, which will be capable of flying at speeds up to 115 mph and distances up to 450 miles. As a car, it gets a respectable 30 mpg. My friend Josh K was fortunate to meet the founder and take a tour of the prototype. He says the real show stopper is its classification as a light-sport craft and price tag under $200,000, which makes it accessible to the casual pilot. The other interesting article highlighted what it takes to be a winner in the mobile software space: (1) be on every phone (duh, but the point is, create something people will use!), (2) user experience, user experience, user experience (I highlighted the importance of this in my last post on social networks, but on phones with small screens it is critical), and (3) it must cross the “GET” threshold, which stands for good enough threshold (keep it simple stupid, give the user what they need and segment wants). In sum, I suggest adding Xconomy to your bookmarks or rss feeds, I did.
UPDATE (5/14/09)
Google gets the “make life simple” concept better than anyone else. That is why they are the #1 web property and will remain on top for the foreseeable future.
